Meet the GroundsFest panellists: Jonathan Bourne, Bourne Amenity

Jonathan Bourne

One of Jonathan Bourne’s first projects with the company was the Olympic Park Project. Over 14 years later he oversees the entirety of the sales and processing operations. During his time within the business he has seen sales almost double, while Bourne Amenity remains committed to ensuring its materials and services are in line with its customers' high demands and expectations.

He will be speaking on HortWeek's Horticulture Question Time panel.

Join us on September 10 in the Landscape Zone in the HortWeek seminar area at GroundsFest at 11am.

This essential event is sponsored by Bourne Amenity and Hillier Nurseries.

You’re on the Horticulture Question Time panel at GroundsFest this year – why should visitors come along to listen?

This will be a great opportunity to pick the brains of a panel who have decades of combined experience in the landscape and amenity sector.

What’s your role at Bourne Amenity and experience there?

I oversee the whole sales and processing operations as one part of the The Bourne Group of companies. I cut my teeth on the Olympic Park Project back in 2011 and have built on those experiences to turn Bourne Amenity into a one stop shop for landscapers, specifiers, architects and groundworkers.

Bourne Group, which Bourne Amenity is part of, has been around for over 70 years – what’s the secret to this longevity and what sets you apart?

Customer centric attention and listening to what the market needs and is moving toward. We have a very loyal and long serving staff base who share in the ethos of service and delivery, which in an ever more competitive marketplace has set us apart. Simple stuff.

What are some of your best-selling products or services?

The Standard BS3882 variations of topsoil will always be the number one in terms of volume, but our SuDS materials are fast catching up as flood water management comes ever more to the fore. We have just opened up a SuDS specific blending facility to service this growing demand so that is where a lot of our product innovation is coming from currently.

Considering the current shifts in the landscape and amenity sector, what are you focussing on development wise that you believe will be crucial?

More technical analysis of the materials, along with innovation in the world of green roofs and repurposing of waste materials for the green roof sector.
