Five questions with Cargo Logistics' Craig Francis

How did you get into the industry?

I have always loved a good challenge, and logistics just made sense, it’s basically one big, ever-changing puzzle. A lot of my family works in logistics so it was an easy introduction. I joined Cargo in 2003 and since then, we’ve really focused on building a business that values clear communication and solid relationships with clients.

What do you do in your day-to-day job?

A lot of talking! Communication is at the heart of what we do. We work across multiple sectors, each with its own customs and freight challenges, and we’re always looking for tailored solutions that best support our clients. We also make a point of building strong relationships with our clients’ suppliers. This helps streamline processes and makes the entire supply chain more efficient for everyone involved.

Biggest current issue?

At the moment, it’s the ongoing review of the SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) agreement with the EU. Since Brexit, moving plants has come with its fair share of hurdles, and this agreement could mean more changes on the horizon. Everyone’s keeping a close eye on what’s coming next and how it might affect the day-to-day. We are hopeful that any changes will increase the speed and flow of horticultural movements.

Plans for future?

We’re always looking ahead. Right now, we’re focusing on growing our expertise further and expanding markets. The goal is to keep making things easier for our clients, keeping ahead of the curve so our clients don’t have to worry.

Tell us about the upcoming Four Oaks event?

This will be our fifth time at Four Oaks, and it’s always a highlight for us. It’s a great chance to catch up with both UK and EU colleagues, swap ideas, and share what we’ve learned. The show’s always busy, I enjoy attending some of the panels to get insights from the experts and am looking forward to taking part this year.

Craig will be taking part in the panel discussion at Four Oaks Trade Show, Exploring the future of red tape for importers & exporters of plants, will take place on Wednesday 3 September, 11.30am.

Join our panel of industry experts: Matthew Appleby HortWeek (chair), with Craig Francis of Cargo Logistics, Malcolm Catlin of Plant Healthy and Sally Cullimore (HTA). More speakers TBC.

Sponsored by Cargo Logistics.
