Tender of the week: Trio of councils combine to offer huge grounds maintenance tender

Rushden, Higham Ferrers & Irthlingborough Town Councils' combined contract is worth up to £4m.

Rushden Town Council in Northamptonshire has issued the tender on behalf of itself, Higham Ferrers Town Council & Irthlingborough Town Council.

Work to be undertaken includes:

  • Grass cutting in amenity areas, parks, verges and cemeteries

  • Hedge and shrub maintenance, including trimming, shaping and seasonal works

  • Weed control on hard surfaces and planted areas using chemical and non-chemical options

  • Litter collection across open spaces, parks and high-use areas

  • Sports pitch maintenance, including marking, mowing and seasonal preparation

  • Cemetery grounds care, ensuring respectful upkeep and memorial safety awareness

  • Grave digging, including the preparation of graves, backfilling, reinstatement and compliance with burial regulations

  • Basic tree works, covering low-level pruning and safety reporting

  • Seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, planting support and winter preparation

The estimated full-term contract value is £3m to £4m, including extensions.

The seven-year contract will run from 1 November to 31 October 2031, with a possible extension to 31 October 2033.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 14 July.
