Tender of the Week: huge tree maintenance contract up for grabs

Peterborough Council is looking for an arb contractor to service its ten-year tender.

Peterborough City Council manages and maintains approximately 40,000 specimen trees across a wide range of locations within the unitary authority boundary, including highways, parks, open spaces, cemeteries, churchyards, allotments, schools and the Crematorium, together with other public assets.

The council aims maintaining a safe, healthy and sustainable urban forest that contributes positively to the environment, biodiversity, climate resilience and the wellbeing of residents.

The successful contractor will be expected to deliver a range of arboricultural services, both planned and reactive.

They include:

- Tree pruning and crown management.

- Tree felling and dismantling operations.

- Emergency call-out and storm response services.

- Stump removal and management.

- Young tree maintenance and establishment.

- Highway and public realm tree maintenance.

- Woodland and shelterbelt management.

- Management of pests, diseases and invasive species where required.

Estimated start date is 1 April 2027 for an initial term of 5 years. The contract may be extended by a further five extensions of 12 months each.

The maximum value of the contract is £8,400,000 including VAT
