The recording focused on the Environmental Horticulture Group (EHG) and its lobbying document Mission Green Growth, which found the industry is worth £38bn GDP to the UK, as well as the recent House of Lords horticulture report.
EHG chair Boyd Douglas-Davies spoke about the group’s aims, while HTA director of research and insights David Denny delved into the data. HTA director of public affairs Jennifer Pheasey talked about lobbying asks to the Government to kickstart economic growth for the sector, as well as potential policy solutions.
BALI chief executive Wayne Grills suggested how the sector can help the Government achieve its planning aims when building 1.5 million new homes. RHS director of science Professor Alistair Griffiths spoke about R&D and nature-based solutions to some of the political strategic challenges, while NFU Horticulture and Potatoes Board chair Martin Emmett advised how the Government could promote attracting the next generation of horticulturalists.
