Since the pandemic the parks and gardens sector has seen the public grasp the value of the green spaces it cares for. But as the cost-of-living crisis continues and the effects of climate change become increasingly apparent the industry is facing both challenges and opportunities. Parks and Gardens Week is a week dedicated to these challenges and opportunities.
Paul Rabbitts, Parks Management Association chair and head of environment for Norwich City Council, and Alan Sargent, independent gardens consultant landscape industry veteran of 58 years, joined Rachael Forsyth, senior reporter at HortWeek for its PARK AND GARDENS SUMMIT. The two experts explored the challenges and opportunities when it comes to financial sustainability.
To break down what is an incredibly large and complex subject, a PESTLE analysis was used. This examines how Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental external factors affect parks and gardens and their ability to generate income.
THE PANEL
Paul Rabbitts – Parks Management Association chair and environmental services manager for Norwich City Council
Alan Sargent – Independent gardens consultant landscape industry veteran of 54 years. He also founder of the Professional Garden Consultants Association
