Design and Build of Replacement Play Equipment and Additional Works, St Martin's play area
St Martin's play area is the most popular play area in Cranbrook and includes a neighbourhood and local equipped area of play (NEAP and LEAP) and was originally installed in 2014.
Some of the timber play equipment has reached the end of its life already and the Council has concerns regarding the original preparation of the underlying ground and the original installation of the safety surfacing which displays evidence of erosion below the surfacing.
The successful contractor will need to provide for both a neighbourhood as well as a local equipped area of play (NEAP and LEAP), their respective target age ranges and equipment requirements.
In another play area, path gravel kept migrating onto the safety surface (wetpour). In the same play area, the edge of the wetpour had not been secured effectively and could be lifted. The council "wishes to avoid a similar situation".
Existing paths will be retained should work effectively with the new, adjacent safety surfacing.
Tenders should include:
• Removal and disposal of items of play equipment which have reached their end of life and proposals for which items might be removed or improved, depending on the availability of budget
• Removal and disposal of the original safety surfacing
• Appropriate ground preparation and installation of safety surfacing (ideally wetpour)
• Creation of a theme in the play area
• Installation of new play equipment
The council is specifying equipment made with only recycled plastic or non-rusting metal. Proposals for timber equipment will not be considered.
The total value of the project is £160,000 (including VAT).
It is estimated the contract will run from 24 September 2025 to 31 December 2025.
The deadline date for receipt of expressions of interest is 10 August 2025.
