Book of the week: One Garden Against The World

Kate Bradbury searches for hope in a changing climate.

One Garden
One Garden

This hardworking TV wildlife gardener has written a high-profile book for Bloomsbury that seeks to show how we can help the environment starting in our back yards.

Endorsements from Isabella Tree, Chris Packham, Pam Ayres, Caroline Lucas MP, Megan McCubbin and the ubiquitous book blurber Dave Goulson show how much Bloomsbury Wildlife think of this tome.

The book follows a month-by-month format as Bradbury, who lives in Brighton, diarises the wildlife in her garden. Tosca the dog features alongside a cast of tadpoles, slugs, amphibians, hedgehogs, bees and other creatures.

The book is pockmarked with wisdom. Ivy is amazing, she says, as are ponds and nettles. Crows aren't stupid. Use grey water.

Overall, this autobiographical rather than scientific route into persuading people to make their gardens wildlife friendly works.
